I hear a lot of folks say that they can't grow food because they live in a small space, but that's not true at all. While it might feel like your tiny apartment doesn't have room for any green, there are all sorts of clever ways to squeeze some food plants into a small space. Here's some small space garden inspiration to get you going.

String Garden

I'm smitten with this lovely hanging string garden from Design*Sponge! Rather than flowers or ferns, why not choose some shade-loving herbs or leafy greens for your string garden? Herbs like mint, basil, and parsley do well in shade.

Window Farming

Window farming is a new trend in small space gardening that involves growing a vertical, hydroponic crop of food plants right in the window. You can find window gardening kits, but you can also construct your own from reclaimed water bottles and a few other supplies.

The Salad Box

Themed gardens are super fun, and the salad box is a great way to grow a bounty of veggies in a small space. You can build something very elaborate or go with a simpler box that fits in the windowsill. Here are some tips on starting your own salad box from Yates Gardening:
